Non-Pneumatic, Non-Solid Wheel
Big Tyre is developing a non-pneumatic, non-solid wheel which combines excellent load, suspension and torque capacities with low ground pressure and good ride comfort.
Big Tyre is developing non-pneumatic, non-solid wheels for heavy equipment in association with, and significant financial support from, the Australia Coal Association Research Projects (ACARP).
Our aim is to develop wheels which are:
- Puncture proof (airless)
- Excessively strong
- Comfortable
- Resilient to impact
- Efficient (even pressure & good tread utilisation)
- Safe
- Suitable for tough environments like mining and military use
The wheels are designed to be fitted with waterproof sidewalls to protect the interior from water and stones.
We have completed 3 prototypes to date: 2 large wheels for heavy machinery and a small wheel for a go-kart as a proof of concept.
